What is Kinship CrossFit?

Kinship CrossFit is a grassroots, non-profit fitness program for at risk youth. This program is partly conducted in collaboration with an Omaha Public Schools alternative middle school. Students there have faced significant behavioral challenges at school. The staff of this school are constantly faced with the challenge to educate, engage, and help these students find success at school. This school was established to support the educational needs of 7th and 8th graders that have not found success at traditional middle schools. Learning about nutrition and exercise while working out with their teachers, police officers, and other community members, fosters an environment that will present these students with the opportunity to gain skills, values, and respect while receiving encouragement from authorities and peers. Along with our afternoon OPS class we hold an evening class for any area youth interested. This class brings together neighborhood kids and police officers for a fun, challenging workout in a team-building environment. Kinship CrossFit brings a community based exercise program to help establish positive behavior through hard work.

This program is in its infancy, so every dollar counts.  Proceeds go towards one certified CrossFit instructor (the rest are volunteer police and probation officers) and equipment. As funds increase, the plan is to provide the students with shoes and work out apparel.
